I have always wanted to be a photographer. But, I didn’t always believe in myself. I would look through the pages of Vogue and scroll endlessly through images in online photography forums wishing I could take photos like the great photographers of our time. Heck, I still do that!
It took many years before I took the leap and left my 9-5 to pursue my dream. But the major catalyst for me was the death of my grandmother, a major figure in my life. When she passed away I started questioning what I was doing with my life, my happiness, and my health. And I realized I was stagnant. I had to make a change.
In 2020 I quit my full-time job to take photography from my side hustle to a professional career. With COVID around the corner, it started off as you would imagine, pretty rocky. But, I stuck with it. I kept showing up, kept learning, kept building my portfolio and I realized I had two major things that set me apart from other photographers. First, my ability to put people at ease in front of the camera. And second, my ability to tell stories through photos.
I love photography deeply as an art form. But over the years I have learned that images can do so much more. My work as a brand photographer has taught me about the importance of serving my community and empowering others through my work. And running a business has made me more thoughtful about living a more authentic and fulfilling life. These are the things that matter to me and I want to empower other business owners who want the same.
